"The Ultimate Weight Lifting Gloves"
A review and comparison of Harbinger, Valeo and Nike weight lifting gloves with NewGrips.
by Daniel Bogosian
I am 31 and have been weight training for 5 years. It is a lifestyle I take seriously.
I follow a 4 Stage Training plan that increases my rep max about 10% every 5 months.
Having used about 10 different weight lifting gloves during those five years, I can say with all the honesty that NewGrips are far superior to other weight lifting gloves in every important way whether you train hard every day or casually a couple of times a week.
I found the NewGrips on a whim. I was searching the Internet for new gloves because I was lifting too heavy a weight for the Nike gloves I was using. They were just not padded enough, although I enjoyed the ease of movement between my fingers and their less cumbersome wrist straps compared to the $30-$40 Harbinger Wrist Wrap Gloves and the $25 Valeo Ocelot Wrap Lifting Gloves that I have also used.
Essentially I was looking for a glove with the protection of a heavy duty glove and the dexterity of the Nikes, but not a flimsy. My search took me to something much better.
Before I review the NewGrip I think it's best to review the two heavy duty gloves that many think are the best in the gym.
Harbingers with wrist wraps made my hands sweat and my fingers immovable. The worst part, their poor grip. Because they take away the dexterity and length from your fingers, the Harbingers actually hurt me on exercises like the lat pull down. You can't get around the bar properly and you therefore feel yourself slipping the entire set, so you cannot pull down as much weight and your workout is compromised. Also they are just flat out bulky and a pain in the ass to take on and off. So if I want to switch to some curls or tricep pull downs, which I do not use gloves for, I have to waste time trying to rip those Harbingers off my sweaty hands. Harbingers offer hand protection but with many compromises.
Valeo Ocelot's were great for a week or two; with more ease of movement than the Harbinger and super comfortable, but the foam padding broke down very quickly. Then they became a pain literally. If you were a really wasteful person with a ton of money you could buy 26 pairs of Ocelot wrist gloves and change them every other week and you'd be pain free and happy. Protection, but very poorly constructed.
So now we come to the NewGrip. I Googled 'best weight lifting gloves' and low and behold, Newgrip.com was the first selection. I never said I was a genius, sometimes searching is just that easy. :)
I bought them after reading other users' feedback and really, by just looking at the design and understanding what I was searching for in the first place, it was a no-brainer. The price was fair, as they were the same as an on-sale Harbinger or Ocelot so I snagged a pair.
When I received them I followed the simple 10 second directions to put them together and I was off to the gym. Now other users have already written about their amazing benefits, and they were right. Every last one of them. NewGrips gave me confidence and superior grip on the lat pull down. They gave me ample protection on the Bench Press. They have no backing on the top side of the hand so they are as breathable as if you weren't even wearing gloves, and yet they hold on securely. The wrist straps are comfortable and get even more comfortable with use. The neoprene hand pads conform to the curled shape of your hands and then contour to anything your grab; weight bars, equipment handels, cables, ropes and even make it easier to use a stair machine or eliptical. They are also easy to take on and off. They held up great and are still like new, after over a year! They are the ultimate weight lifting "gloves".
I lost one of them a few months ago, and procrastinated buying new ones for about a month; so I went back to my old gloves, and I could not get comfortable. I rotated between the old Harbingers, Valeo Ocelots, and Nikes, and they were all terrible. Either loss of dexterity or hand pain, all over again. Lack of dexterity and grip will ruin a workout! Those gloves were making the gym an unfun place to be. I was actually taking steps backward. So, I got my butt back on line to www.newgrip.com and reordered a new set. Working out is now more fun and pain free again.
Thank you Alan for your invention, NewGrips will help more people get stronger faster, and eliminate much pain and discomfort. I know from experience. I have tried them all.
To any one reading this: If you desire a better workout, please try NewGrips for yourself. You will NOT be disappointed!!!!!!!
